LEGACY TOOLING INITIATIVE

I was brought onto this project to help facilitate and organize the transition of systems being used in SMC.

At SMC, there are a lot of molds for various different parts and each mold has many steel inserts to create the cavities and cores necessary to manufacture each part. Each insert has a respective serial number to designate what part of the mold it is and which mold it belongs to.

This project set out to reorganize the system in which the inserts are laid out and tracked. This project included creating work instructions for serializing the unserialized components. Normally detail numbers would be included in the molds CAD files but because of the age of some of these tools, there was no CAD to reference.

For the serialized components, I repackaged and transferred the components to our new electronic storage system. I also added each component separately into our internal network so the locations could be tracked by component instead of by mold.
